Piezoelectric Transformers and DC-DC Piezo Converters

Piezoelectric Transformers

Piezoelectric transformers are an alternative to wire wound magnetic transformers. They behave differently and have a number of advantages, e.g., they are lighter and smaller, and they have excellent electrical isolation and no magnetic stray flux. For these reasons they have been used as high voltage generators in CCFL backlighting inverters for laptop computers.

There are two main types of piezoelectric trasnformers: Step-up piezoelectric trasnformers and Step-down piezoelectric transformers. Step-up piezoelectric tranformers are typically designed using Rosen-type configuration, while Step-down piezoelectric transformers are typically achieved using radial-type Transoner piezoelectric transformers.

The following standard component categories are currently available:

Step-up High Voltage Piezoelectric Transformers

(Rosen PT)

Ceramic multilayer actuator plate

Step-down Piezoelectric Transformers, (Transoner PT)

Stacked ceramic multilayer actuator plates

DC-DC Step-up Piezoelectric Converters

 Ceramic multilayer actuator rings
